As you unlock bonuses from Rhapsodies in Vanadiel, leveling a subjob to 49 becomes something you can easily solo in an afternoon, if not an hour. I took my time and leveled up various jobs and sub jobs all at the same time because I enjoyed the grind. That being said, the journey there is part of the fun. As it stands, your various skills will probably be undercapped and you won’t start feeling super impressed with your character until you break 99. Note, thanks to trusts and various quality of life changes, that first road to 99 can be done naked and with no subjob. (Obligatory plug for “QuickStart guide to 119” - look for it if you haven’t come across it yet) Most if not all of the ride to 99 will be solo. The game really opens up from there to get into weapon and equipment hunting, building out your sets, making money, clearing Missions and Quests, and experimenting with your job in group content. Once you’re at 99 and unlock ilevel equipment everything changes because tons of old content becomes soloable, and getting any other jobs to 99 becomes trivial. I’d say your most important decision when coming back is which job you want to use to get to 99 for the first time. And while doing those again doesn't bother me too much, getting the fame to get them again does. The main reason I want to get my old character back is because I had most of the available avatars unlocked through those level 20 solo fights. Now that I may not have to be a discount white mage to get a party leaves me feeling uncertain of what to do with myself. What little research I've done tells me red mage would be the best subjob, so I guess I should start there? And then, what is the best subjob for that, white mage? Sorry, but the old days of every mage needing to sub white mage are all I know. So, that means leveling something other than summoner to start with. And I can't remember what server I was on, so I'm going to assume recovery won't be an option. Customer support won't be open until tomorrow afternoon my time. I'm still undecided about trying to get my old character back. I've been convinced and definitely will be returning to the game.
